BBC Admits Fatal Negligence
From the desk of Paul Belien on Tue, 2006-02-07 23:39
Tonight the BBC admitted that it has misinformed the international community by telling the world that one of the Danish Muhammad cartoons was a depiction of a pigsnouted Muhammad. The BBC website says:
Twelve cartoons were originally published by Jyllands-Posten. None showed the Prophet with the face of a pig. Yet such a portrayal has circulated in the Middle East (The BBC was caught out and for a time showed film of this in Gaza without realizing it was not one of the 12).
This picture, a fuzzy grey photocopy, can now be traced back (suspicion having been confirmed by an admission) to a delegation of Danish Muslim leaders who went to the Middle East in November to publicise the cartoons. The visit was organised by Abu Laban, a leading Muslim figure in Denmark.
One wonders why the BBC did not check with Jyllands-Posten, and ask them for copies of the original cartoons, before broadcasting the news to a worldwide Muslim audience. One wonders also whether BBC journalists ever consult blogs. The twelve cartoons have been available on the internet for months. Moreover, if the BBC had published the cartoons on its own website – instead of pondering whether or not to show them – and fulfilled its duty as information provider this would not have happened. Perhaps extreme violence and some fatalities could have been avoided.
As we wrote last Saturday:
the venerable BBC – never hesitating to offend prudish Christians – found itself in a “dilemma” when it had to decide whether or not to show prudish Muslims twelve, mostly inoffensive cartoons [see them here, halfway down the page] – so inoffensive in fact that alienated Danish Muslim fanatics had to add three truly offensive cartoons (of their own making?) to deliberately incite Islamic hatred against Denmark.
You’re right, it is pretty

You’re right, it is pretty ridiculous to not publish the cartoons in a book about those very cartoons.
Otherwise, though, those cartoons are racist garbage. I’m all about critiquing religion, but not through such racist, xenophobic garbage as that. Obviously the violent reaction on the part of some people around the world was completely unwarranted, and of course the original publisher of the cartoons has freedom of speech, but seriously, those cartoons are awful. The whole point of publishing those cartoons originally (in a right wing Danish newspaper) was to give a big “f%#! you!” to Muslims living in Denmark and Europe. It didn’t appear to me to be any sort of thoughtful critique of religion. canadian prilosec rx canadian imitrex rx

Hey Emeda30, are you on medication?

Hey you, what are you trying to prove with this dissertation and sightings?
I suppose you are trying to make a point or two but frankly I think that you are on some kind of medication. Get a grip. See the world, terrorism and murderous action of the Muslims for what it is. I do not think anyone, except you, cares about all the three pages of off the wall reasoning you have given to prove your point, if you have any. I would almost enjoy to see you try to bargain and win your freedom or life your when facing the murderous Islamic Jihad using the line of bull you are trying to feed the readers.
Islam A Religion of Terror? YES It IS!

Emeda30 We are not buying it! You are without any honor, because you support these terrorists, you remain silent and donot strive or push for their incarceration and execution. You quote scripture and wrong you hands saying this is not Islam, oh it is so terrible. Islam was not spread peacefully, it was spread at the point of the sword and warfare.
You belong to the same group as Lilly, so upset, so desirous of others seeing the "true" islam. We have seen it for 1427 years we have seen it. You may have fooled one or two but not all of us. Give it a rest! We are never going to believe you! Too many of us have been there, done that, seen it firsthand, know it, married it, left it, walked away from you people disgusted!
Save your voice, we are the silly students that you brainwash into Shahada!
The goddess Hel keep thee from more pernicious lies!

Judging the many by the few

One of the many short comings which has arisen in the West, is judging Islam by the conduct of a minority of its people. By doing this, segments of Western society have deliberately played off the desperate actions of many Muslims, and have given it the name of Islam. Such behaviour is clearly not objective and seeks to distort the reality of Islam. For if such a thing was done Judge a religion by the conduct of its people) then we too could say that all Christianity is about is child molesting and homosexuality
Nermin, are you paying attention to what this person is saying?

There's a great letter in The Times today from Will Wyatt, Chief Executive of BBC Broadcast from 1996 to 1999:
Double standards in dealing with Islam
Sir, I applaud the BBC’s news treatment of the Danish cartoons (report, Feb 4). On its website, however, the cultural cringe is evident and double standards obtain. In its history of Islam we read: “One night in 610 he (Muhammad) was meditating in a cave on the mountain when he was visited by the angel Jibreel who ordered him to “recite” . . . words which he came to understand were the words of God.” This is written as fact, no “it is said” or “Muhammad reported”. Whenever Muhammad’s name is mentioned the BBC adds “Peace be upon him”, as if the corporation itself were Muslim.
How different, and how much more accurate, when we turn to Christianity. Here, Jesus’ birth “is believed by Christians to be the fulfilment of prophesies in the Jewish Old Testament”; Jesus “claimed that he spoke with the authority of God”; accounts of his resurrection appearances were “put about by his believers”.
WILL WYATT Chief Executive, BBC Broadcast, 1996-99 Middle Barton, Oxon
- take a look at the two following letters as well. As my colleague Laban asks on his blog:
...for how long has it been mandatory in the Met and on the BBC to call Mohammed 'the Prophet Mohammed'? [note capital 'P'] I haven't noticed Jesus being referred to as 'the Lord Jesus Christ' lately.
Indeed. I shall now return to my current B-BBC sabbatical. TTFN.
Cartoons publish 5 months ago in Egypt!

According to the website freedomforegyptians.blogspot.com, the cartoons were published five months ago without incident. It was ONLY AFTER THE DANISH IMAM'S VISIT IN NOVEMBER that any notice was taken, the same trip where he added three cartoons of his own because he deemed them more abusive and thus more illustrative of his point (and truth be damned!).
