How Britain Has Destroyed Itself
From the desk of The Brussels Journal on Wed, 2008-01-09 18:05
A quote from George MacDonald Fraser in the Daily Mail, 5 January 2008
It’s the present generation with their permissive society, their anything-goes philosophy, and their generally laid-back, inyerface attitude I feel sorry for. They regard themselves as a completely liberated society when in fact they are less free than any generation since the Middle Ages. Indeed, there may never have been such an enslaved generation, […].
We could say what we liked; they can’t. We were not subject to the aggressive pressure of special interest minority groups; they are. We had no worries about race or sexual orientation; they have. We could, and did, differ from fashionable opinion with impunity, and would have laughed PC to scorn, had our society been weak and stupid enough to let it exist. We had available to us an education system, public and private, that was the envy of the world. We had little reason to fear being mugged or raped (killed in war, maybe, but that was an acceptable hazard). Our children could play in street and country in safety. We had few problems with bullies because society knew how to deal with bullying and was not afraid to punish it in ways that would send today’s progressives into hysterics. We did not know the stifling tyranny of a liberal establishment, determined to impose its views, and beginning to resemble George Orwell's Ministry of Truth. Above all, we knew who we were and we lived in the knowledge that certain values and standards held true, and that our country, with all its faults and need for reforms, was sound at heart.
Not any more. I find it difficult to identify a time when the country was as badly governed as it has been in the past 50 years. We have had the two worst Prime Ministers in our history – Edward Heath (who dragooned us into the Common Market) and Tony Blair. The harm these two have done to Britain is incalculable and almost certainly irreparable. Whether the public can be blamed for letting them pursue their ruinous policies is debatable. Short of assassination there is little people can do when their political masters have forgotten the true meaning of the democracy of which they are forever prating, are determined to have their own way at all costs and hold public opinion in contempt.

If you are referring to my apparent attempt to 'curry favour' with kappert,or even 'bury the hatchet',let's just say that I am sometimes prepared to 'turn the other cheek'.However,as we both know,none of those expressions necessarily mean what they appear to say. He-he-he !!!
@kappert
Of course,sometimes they DO.

Agreed,again.
Perhaps I have been too hasty in judgement.Maybe there IS still some hope for you.We'll see.

It is true that the Bengalis are the best "curry" cooks in the world.
The use of the word curry as a general Indian sauce covering all is basically wrong. Curry is but one of the hundreds of spices mixed in Indian cooking and THE curry sauce doesn't exist in India. Curry is mixed in all kinds of preparations without those preparations being called "curry".
As to the main purpose of this protest by the "curry"industry, this shortage is definitely not a good reason enough to let another million Bengalis in the UK.

Mere hyperbole.
Fraser: We had no worries about race or sexual orientation; they have.
Perhaps 'you' should have endeavored to keep it that way.
Fraser: We had little reason to fear being mugged or raped (killed in war, maybe, but that was an acceptable hazard). Our children could play in street and country in safety.
You can take the Somalis out of of Mogadishu, but you can't...

Now there's a refreshing idea. Perhaps we can find someone willing to throw the proverbial spear at the proverbial tower.

"...why do you (and the Sun) make an issue of his sexuality?"
[Alternative response]
Who made (homo)sexuality an "issue" in the first place,me,the Sun newspaper or Mr Koh himself?
First,take a look at this excerpt from an interview given by Mr Koh.
http://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1G1-150694701.html
MB Could you say something about the way you built the installation The Temple of the Golden Piss?
TK The Temple of the Golden Piss was a critique on the Roman hierachy of the Church structure.It was also a comment on the cross-pollination of Jadaic Catholic Theology - the idea of an inverse church.And inside this church is the idea of the animals of the world having a picnic BUT WANTING TO DO IT OVER A LACERATED BODY OF A GAY CHRIST that was pissed on.Hence I had 88 yellow neon rods that SYMBOLIZED 88 GAY APOSTLES that were to be INSERTED SORT OF PHALLICALLY INTO THE ANUS OF GOD.For god I thimk is AN ANUS THAT IS LINKED TO HIS MOUTH,that is why he is eternal...
[Emphasis added].
Finally:
"NO SISSY GAYS"
No,that isn't some homophobic quote from the pages of the Sun newspaper,it's from the artist's own website.
visit: http://www.asianpunkboy.com/
click on: SHOP and CHIT etc.,
So, from the graphic innuendo evident on this website it seems pretty clear to me that (homo)"sexuality" is more of an "issue" for Mr Koh than it is for either myself or the Sun newspaper.
Final point.This little prick is no Leonardo da Vinci.

"Do you think it's only homosexuals who produce talentless,pointless,and offensive art?"
Not only do I not think that,I know with certainty that many homosexual artists,throughout the ages,have produced not just good art but what many would consider masterpieces.
"If not,why do you (and the Sun) make an issue of his sexuality?"
I cannot speak for the Sun but speaking for myself,Mr Koh's sexuality is not an issue.However,it is a fact that Mr Koh is a homosexual and if I were a practising Muslim (which I am not) I believe this would probably be an issue for me.It should also be an issue for said practising Muslim that Mr Koh appears to have more respect for Mickey Mouse and ET than he does for either Muhammad or Jesus.These are the facts and the facts don't change.It is also a fact that I am responsible for that typo for which I apologise.

* Kohl's exhibition,entitled Gone,Yet Still, consists of 74 plaster models ranging from statues of Mickey Mouse to ET,all with full erections.
* Some complainants have made the point that there would be an outcry if a statue of Muhammad were displayed that way.
* The 'artist' in question is a homosexual.
* The homosexual 'artist' in question claims all the people and objects are important in his life.
* The homosexual 'artist' in question clearly sees Islam's Holy Prophet a less important figure,historically and personally,than the cartoon character Mickey Mouse.
So,if I were a practising British Muslim,I believe I might find a number of those facts rather offensive. Consequently,it is to be hoped that British Muslims will stand shoulder to shoulder with non Muslim complainants in opposition to this so called art exhibition.

The artist is, according to the Sun piece you link to, called "Koh", not "Kohl".
Do you think it's only homosexuals who can produce talentless, pointless and offensive art? If not, why do you (and the Sun) make an issue of his sexuality?

The trick
Submitted by Atlanticist911 on Fri, 2008-01-11 00:43.
For the true conservative the trick is to recognise and treasure all that was good about the past,embrace all that is good about the present,reject the bad and pass on the accumulated good to future generations.Sadly,we appear to be doing the exact opposite.

Oh, those were the days, eh. When any queer could expect a bashing on a dark street corner, and all the rooms for rent had "No children, no Irish, no Blacks" signs in their windows. Happy happy days.
De mortuis nil nisi bonum and all that, but this man really did talk a load of bollocks.

@Bob Doney:
No, but back then sexual orientation was not taught to children. Children as young as 5 and 6 years old are being forced to "learn" ("indoctrinated" would be a better term) about "sexual orientation". For crying out loud, children should be permitted to be children and not have tbe burden of squabbling special interest groups dumped on them!
"Oh, those were the days, eh. When any queer could expect a bashing on a dark street corner"
Yup. That NEVER happens nowadays, does it?

@Bob Doney:
You don't get it. All of the indoctrination and legislation of the left still does not change tha fact that many (the majority, I would venture to say) do NOT want the gay lifestyle jammed down their collective throats. It creates more resentment and defeats the very purpose for such "social engineering".
Human nature has not changed much. You will continue to have men who will (wrongly) resort to violence against what they see is unnatural. While I condemn any violence against gays (or any other innocent person), I also don't want their agenda FORCED on our society.
How about a comment on my statement about children being forced to learn about the "gay lifestyle"?

Atheling: "How about a comment on my statement about children being forced to learn about the "gay lifestyle"?"
My comment is this: I don't particularly like the premature sexualisation of children, whatever the orientation. But I'm now of the grandparents' generation, not the parents', so no one is especially interested in what I think.
I can't see any harm at all though in children being taught, in a factual way, about different lifestyles and life choices. The question of course is what age is appropriate for what knowledge, and I simply don't have a glib formula for that.
However, I still don't think people should lie to themselves and the rest of us about the past, and thus create a completely phony picture. Laurie Lee has a lot to answer for .....

Actually, that's not the only question: Who should be teaching the "factual" way of "different lifestyles"?

This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars,
This other Eden, demi-paradise,
This fortress built by Nature for herself
Against infection and the hand of war,
This happy breed of men, this little world,
This precious stone set in the silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall
Or as a moat defensive to a house,
Against the envy of less happier lands,--
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England.
This bloody England

Well, if you're going to quote John of Gaunt as per Billy Boy, you may as well quote the rest of the speech, so folks don't get the wrong idea of what John was actually saying:
"This nurse, this teeming womb of royal kings,
Fear'd by their breed and famous by their birth,
Renowned for their deeds as far from home,
For Christian service and true chivalry,
As is the sepulchre in stubborn Jewry,
Of the world's ransom, blessed Mary's Son,
This land of such dear souls, this dear dear land,
Dear for her reputation through the world,
Is now leased out, I die pronouncing it,
Like to a tenement or pelting farm:
England, bound in with the triumphant sea
Whose rocky shore beats back the envious siege
Of watery Neptune, is now bound in with shame,
With inky blots and rotten parchment bonds:
That England, that was wont to conquer others,
Hath made a shameful conquest of itself.
Ah, would the scandal vanish with my life,
How happy then were my ensuing death!"
See, there's always someone who says that things were better when he was a lad.
And if you want to see the inky blots and rotten parchment as an early attempt to describe the Constitutional Treaty, I'm not about to stop you.
Agreed... but...

"Whether the public can be blamed for letting them pursue their ruinous policies is debatable."
This is the only questionable statement I see in this otherwise excellent article. The people voted for Labour and socialism.
I don't know who wrote this, but I found it appropriate for the West:
"From bondage to spiritual faith;
from spiritual faith to great courage;
from great courage to liberty;
from liberty to abundance;
from abundance to complacency;
from complacency to apathy;
from apathy to governmental dependency;
from governmental dependency to bondage".

"Short of assassination there is little people can do when their political masters have forgotten the true meaning of the democracy of which they are forever prating, are determined to have their own way at all costs and hold public opinion in contempt."
Well warranted hyperbole aside, and realizing that the Conservatives are a joke too, the Brits really need to forge a new party for independants dedicated to reversing the rot. The other measure needed is to break up the Orwellian BBC which acts as Useful Idiots for the socialist elite. Refusing to pay the fee would be a start, hammering them with complaints would be another.
It's the 1930's deja vu again when Europeans wasted valuable time and ultimately lives stewing in complacency and denial. I'm convinced that socialism and the rot that it has brought upon the west is far more dangerous than the jihadis and their thug religion and states.
This pretty much sums up Nu Labor's failure on the educational and cultural front, the vulgarity that it spawned and the smarmy programing of the BBC.
