Let’s Discuss Deportation

A quote from The Local, Sweden’s news in English, 27 November 2007
People who have been smuggled into Sweden should be deported, a leading Social Democrat politician has said. Allowing those who have paid thousands to people smugglers to stay is not fair on people who can’t afford to pay to leave their homelands. Göran Johansson, leader of Gothenburg Council, said he based his views on the fact that many of the 20,000 Iraqis expected to come to Sweden this year came here illegally, often with the help of people smugglers. “If it is obvious that someone has been smuggled in they should be sent back again,” Johansson told newspaper GT. People pay around 100,000 kronor ($16,000) each to be brought to Sweden.
“We should never accept this. By not saying anything we are tacitly accepting people smuggling,” Johansson said. Johansson admitted that his idea, if put into practice, would lead to more people being returned directly to their homelands. “Then they can come back by the normal route,” he said. He added that it was immoral for money to decide who would make it to Sweden. “There may be those who can’t scrape together 100,000 kronor whose need to come here is perhaps greater. But they don’t get a chance,” he said.

"Allowing those who have paid thousands to people smugglers to stay is not fair on people who can’t afford to pay to leave their homelands."
More importantly, immigration is unfair to Europeans. It doesn't matter whether it is organized by illegal people smugglers or by our governments. Since it is obvious that immigrants have been brought here by our governments against our will, they should be sent back.

What is the point of expelling them before accepting them back?

Why don't you change your government to one that will not bring immigrants? Wouldn't that solve your problem?

yes but how do we do that?
You have the same problem in the USA.

I don't know how you can say we have the SAME problem since our respective nations operate under different rules.
I don't presume to know or understand details of the government you live under, but in the US, we pass referendums and vote.
Don't you vote?
Don't you vote?

" in the US, we pass referendums and vote. "
And it doesn't work. Most Americans have always been against mass immigration. And yet the country has been swamped by immigration. And the situation gets worse every year.

"And it doesn't work."
Wrong. The Amnesty Bill which Congress tried to pass under various guises has been defeated every time this year. When it comes to the vote, the switchboards at DC get flooded with calls from angry Americans; the faxes at our senators and congressmen's offices are also flooded with adamant letters stating that they do not want amnesty for illegals. And the bill does NOT PASS because Congress backs down.
Give some examples of where it "doesn't work", please.

Yup, the borders need to be sealed.
We need to get rid of the current government and vote in fresh people. The beltway is rotten.
Interesting

Since he wants people "with a need to come here" to come to Sweden, it would appear that Mr Johansson hates swedish culture and wants to make it disappear. For, if everyone "with need" in the world could come via "the normal route", it would disappear (as would Swedish freedom and democracy). One would expect this attitude from a cultural naive-leftie who hasn't thought about it all very seriously.
The article also suggests that he does not like 'rich' people either. Because he apparently does not accept rich people "with need" to come. Somehow he wants to 'discriminate' against the rich in terms of 'deportation', since he probably wouldn't dream of deporting a poor person. One would expect that from a contemporary Swedish "social Democrat".
What is interesting, however, is that in this instance his hatred for 'rich' (very relative) people appears to be stronger than his hatred for traditional Swedish culture, since he does want to send these 'rich' Iraqis back.
Why would he not considering helping these people inside Iraq (including with security)? Because 'Uncle Sam' freed them from Arab nazism? Seems like a poor excuse to me.
