McCarthyism in Reverse
From the desk of The Brussels Journal on Sun, 2007-01-07 09:29
A quote from Jasper Gerard in The Observer, 7 January 2007
[Simone Clarke] might be a nut, but why crack her with a sledgehammer? If you can no longer hold views liberal society rightly regards as repugnant, how liberal is your society? […] We are faced with McCarthyism in reverse, an illiberal liberalism. Perhaps we should call it Livingstonism, after Ken. Or maybe Stourtonism, for its home is the BBC.

When McCarthyism came to life...

Was McCarthyism not used by the political right to attack real and perceived Communists? Therefore 'McCarthyism' is not particular to either side of the left-right spectrum...
What Commies and their Sympathiser forget to mention when they complain about unfair treatment by the Committee on Un-American Activitie is, it was all fine and dandy as long as only a different political agenda was persecuted.
From Wikipedia:
It was called the Special Committee on Un-American Activities Authorized to Investigate Nazi Propaganda and Certain Other Propaganda Activities. In 1934, it held public and private hearings in six cities, questioned hundreds of witnesses and collected testimony filling 4,300 pages. Its mandate was to get "information on how foreign subversive propaganda entered the U.S. and the organizations that were spreading it."
The House Committee on Un-American Activities grew from a special investigating committee established in May 1938, chaired by Martin Dies and co-chaired by Samuel Dickstein, himself named in Soviet NKVD documents as a Soviet agent. In pre-war years and during World War II, it was known as the Dies Committee. Its work was supposed to be aimed mostly at German American involvement in Nazi and Ku Klux Klan activity.
Right to choose and freedom to assemble

Why is this BNP affiliation of Ms Clarke such an offense? In fact, more of us shuld join BNP. If I lived in UK, I surely 'd.
It is more an abomination to join a mosque or leftist or commie gang, whether in India or Nepal or EU.
How many condemned the BBC+islamofascist+commie plot to topple ancient Kingdom of Nepal? Shall we ever allow such a plot in UK/EU that has so many monarchs?

McCarthyism speaking

You correctly identify leftist tactics, Gilbert. PC is a backdoor way to change protections which have always been available, such as freedom of speech and association and others which protect individuals from unjust encroachment from the state. The socialistic left is travelling to its communistic methods and taking our freedoms along the way.
The author of the piece "supporting" Miss Clarke is not so commendable himself even while correctly pointing out the inanity of the left. I find the comments following to be more credible and thoughtful. For instance,
"
Mr Gerard's remarks about the ballerina are correct in that the government was stupid to prosecute Griffin & co and that she (ballerina) belongs to a legal party.
However his style is the oh so familiar sneering insulting diatribe we all grew familiar with in the 60s when the lefties were howling about their rights and causes but also howling down anyone who didn't follow their party line. Apparently little has changed, which is why a sensible public discussion about, say, immigration is impossible today so the three (two?) main parties ignore it which just gives ammunition to the likes of the BNP."
Or,
"Ms. Clarke is entitled to her views. It's called freedom of conscience. Long may that continue!
Ironic really, but those who remonstrate how much that they wish to protect democracy are invariably the ones most keen to destroy it."
Politics known as

Politics known as McCarthyism - reckless charges, smears, guilt by association - is the very essence of left in dealing with its political opponents. The growing power of political correctness may constitute a kind of a "new McCarthyism", violating freedom. In his book "This Nest of Vipers" (University of Illinois Press, 1989), Charles H. McCormick chronicles Luella Mundel's struggle to restore her reputation, and defend freedom in the face of social prejudice. McCormick uses Mundel's case to examine ways in which national politics, special-interest groups, the press, and cultural changes converged to damage individual lives.
I too am a hapless victim of McCarthyism and oppressed and harassed for more than 5 years now on instigation of the Belgium Prime Minister Verhofstadt: an idiotic hateful Nazi Liberal.
