The Anti-American Daance
From the desk of The Brussels Journal on Tue, 2006-09-12 11:24
When the first plane hit [the Twin Towers] I thought “At last!” and fetched a crate of beer. My first reaction was: “The Americans get a taste of their own medicine.”

The American higher education system, entertainment industry and environmental organizations make these kinds of statements all of the time. As an American, I wanted to thank you guys for your responses to this idiot. I haven't met many European conservatives, so I hope to interact with you all in the later months. God Bless.
Calm down, chlenman

Calm down, will you! There is plenty of anti-americanism in the USA itself, particularly in Academia, and even among senior politicians of a particular 'wing' of a particular party. By jolly, we have seen in the past year two former US presidents criticise their own country and government - not at home but IN THE MIDDLE EAST itself - while their country is at war with a large segment of the Middle East.
Since English is the international language of our era, it should not be surprising that the blame-america-first-crowd in the USA is perhaps the greatest engine of anti-americanism around the world. If you listen carefully to the words of islamist leaders and of anti-american Europeans, you could notice that they are often quoting the New York Times, The Nation magazine, and other purveyers of perverse anti-western selfhatred.
This constant tendency (that you participate in) to posit Europe and America as opposites is destructive for the survival of western civilisation. Focus on the culture wars WITHIN that civilisation on BOTH sides of the Atlantic, please.
Drink Up, Daaaaaan!

Prosit to Europe, Daaaan!...As its prisons fill up with violent, Islamicized youth, rapes go through the roof all the while its elites wallow in their multicultural, moral equivalence, and self-ingratiating anti-Americanism. I've always been amazed at how many Euros look down on Americans because we don't "understand." Actually we understand perfectly...but its just Europe...we don't fucking care!
The truth is the average Euro I've dealt with over the years doesn't understand the first thing about the US or Americans despite their claims of being so "well informed"...especially those who have never traveled here. I used to be concerned about where Europe was headed, now I am just amused. Daaaaan and his ilk are getting what they deserve. I just hope his head one of the first on the chopping block.
PS: Finally, learn how to spell Dan, asshole!
Dear americans

Please forgive us, Belgians, for having people with this kind of thoughts among us.
No, we don't all think like this, far from it.
I hope this small message will help you reconsider to comply oncemore when we will be needing rescue by you again in one of the coming decades.
When I find myself feeling

When I find myself feeling joy at the misfortunes of those I dislike, I immediately feel ashamed of myself. But then again, I'm just an Ugly American.

Right-minded Europeans?
Submitted by Frank Lee on Tue, 2006-09-12 15:55.
@Lawrence
You claim that this singer does not represent right-minded Belgians, yet I wonder what percentage of the elites -- the politicians, artists, academics, journalists -- take exception to what he said. How many take exception when their colleagues make these kinds of statements? From America, it would appear that Daan Stuyven represents European elites quite accurately, and our understanding is that the masses in Europe honor the elites. LonestarM hopes that Stuyven never has to see the day when his own country is attacked by Muslim extremists. But I, for one, have lost interest and no longer care what happens to Europe. Perhaps the rudeness and condescension and idiocy from Europeans that has killed off any feelings of sympathy for their plight is actually a misperception on my part, but it is the misperception that matters. The Europeans have allowed the sick anti-Americans to dominate their elite culture, and the result will be bad for Europe.

Daan's ignorance
Submitted by Eddy Burke on Tue, 2006-09-12 14:39.
Hey Lawrence: why don't you tell us what you REALLY feel? :-)
Seriously, Daan's ignorance is stunning. When did the US go around the world deliberately killing innocent people by terrorist acts? Give me ONE example? In Sudan? Eritrea? Indonesia? Pakistan? India? Afghanistan? Bosnia? Egypt? Algeria? Oh, oops, I forgot, these are the places where islamists do these kind of things to innocent people.
Such a statement is an example of total ignorance and illustration of where the Belgian press stands today, giving such a person even the opportunity to voice his opinion, my lord!

For what it's worth, Daan is
Submitted by Lawrence on Tue, 2006-09-12 13:41.
For what it's worth, Daan is NOT very popular!!
He NEVER achieved ANY TOP50 result for as long as he exists.
In fact, this way this moron is trying to get some attention at all.
He does NOT represent right-minded belgians in any way!
You know what is really cynical? This guy will be singing along on the concerts for more peace, tolerance and anti-racism on october first, one week before the elections in Belgium which are directed against what THEY call far-right!
This once again shows what far-left stands for and how hypocritical our government, who support these artists financially and by media, are!!
Fuck you Daan!! You insult our people!! Fuck you once again you filthy ignorant A-hole! I hate this guy!
By a fellow Belgian who you can mail at [email protected]!
Moral Equivalence Argument - Yawwwwwwwwwwwwwwn
Submitted by LonestarM on Tue, 2006-09-12 13:09.
What a despicable and arrogant thing to say. Perhaps this is a peek into Mr. Stuyven's warped view of reality. I wonder what his reaction will be when a long-standing symbol of his homeland is attacked and some of his friends or family are murdered in the name of "religion". For his sake, I hope that he never has to live to see that day.
I'd doubt many Europeans would say this aloud or in such a way that Mr. Stuyven did, but I wonder how many Europeans (who, if it weren't for the U.S.A.'s help during and after WWII, would be living either under Nazism or Communism) silently agree with the basic tenet of his statement? I can guess at the answer and it makes me sad and worried for them.
I will NEVER forget 9/11.
what to think?
Submitted by Marian Hamada on Tue, 2006-09-12 12:07.
What are we supposed to think about this quotation?
When I heard news on TV commenting the commemoration of that cruel and coward act of violence I had to close my eyes and devote some minutes for those who suffered any loss...
I cannot identify 11th September just with the USA but even with whole our civilization. It was not just attack at Americans but even at us.
Finally, how could anyone be so insensitive to write this???
